Frequently asked questions about home gardens

Everything a family asks before growing at home: space, cost, maintenance, pets and how our turnkey service works in Puerto Rico.

How much space do I need to have a garden at home?
Less than you think. A sunny balcony can produce a full week's worth of herbs, and a garden bed just a few meters wide in the yard covers daily salads and vegetables. In the initial consultation we assess your space—yard, terrace, balcony, or carport—and design it to fit.
What does the turnkey service include?
Everything: garden design, garden beds or planters, living soil, irrigation system, first planting, a planting plan by cycles, and recurring maintenance with professional support. You don't do the work or carry the load: you just enjoy the garden and harvest.
What can I grow in Puerto Rico's climate?
The tropical climate allows year-round planting. Recao, cilantro, sweet peppers, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, heat-tolerant lettuces, eggplant, squash, sweet potato, plantain, and herbs like basil and oregano all do very well. The plan is designed around what your family cooks.
Who handles the watering and maintenance?
Watering is automated with a drip system and timer: the garden waters itself at dawn, even while you're traveling. We handle maintenance—fertilizing, crop renewal, pest control—during recurring visits.
Does the garden attract pests or mosquitoes?
A well-designed and well-maintained garden doesn't: drip irrigation prevents standing water (key against the dengue mosquito), living soil keeps things balanced, and professional maintenance catches any pest early, using organic management.
Is it safe for children and pets?
Yes. We use organic management, without harsh agrochemicals, and design with families in mind: raised beds, safe edges, and planting areas kids can access and take part in. If you have pets, we adapt the layout and barriers.
How long does it take from the consultation to the first harvest?
Full installation takes just a few days once the proposal is approved. The first short-cycle crops—lettuce, herbs, radishes—are harvested in 4 to 8 weeks; medium-cycle crops, like tomato and pepper, in 2 to 3 months.
Does this work if I live in an apartment or rented home?
Yes. For apartments and rentals we use planters, deep pots, and vertical systems that don't require permanent construction or modify the structure. If you move, most of the garden can go with you.
How much does it cost?
It depends on the size of the space, the structure chosen, and the level of maintenance. We work with a tailored proposal after the initial visit, with no obligation. Request information and we'll schedule the consultation.
Which areas of Puerto Rico do you offer residential service in?
We currently serve the north metro area: Guaynabo, Dorado, San Juan, Bayamón, Toa Alta, Toa Baja, and Vega Alta. If your municipality isn't listed, write to us: we're expanding coverage.
